Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Train Crash

Law Firm of Walter Gabriel March 10, 2021

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal train crash in New Orleans East.  The fatal train crash happened in the 8600 block of Chef Menteur Highway, near the Gentilly Road CSX. New Orleans police received calls about a pedestrian hit by a train around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

According to the preliminary investigation, a man died after he attempted to cross railroad tracks with his bicycle. Investigators say, a slow-moving train traveling westbound struck the victim. It is unclear if the fatal train crash happened as a result of the victim trying to slide under the train. Investigators have not ruled out if the victim attempted to cross a pair of hitched railroad cars. Police say, the man became trapped under the train. The slow moving train then dragged the victim several blocks. The victim died at the scene of the crash. Authorities withheld the victims identity, pending family notification.
